SKILLED TRADES

Industrious and detail-oriented are a few of the qualities that you will bring with you as a highly skilled CNC Grinder. Applicants must have a certificate of qualification or have at least 5 years experience in areas covered by an apprenticeship within this skilled trade. Aerospace and experience with Lean Manufacturing is an asset.

General Machinist 2 - CNC GRINDER

The ideal candidate will have the ability to set up and operate one or all of the following: CNC Grinders all to close tolerances.

Machine Time: 5 years and up

  • This job is located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
  • Excellent blueprint reading ability including thorough understanding of geometric, dimension and tolerancing.
  • Fully capable of all aspects of CNC cylindrical grinding skills and practices.
  • Fully capable of machine cycle and tool optimization.

Key Duties:

  • Read and interpret engineering process sketches, charts and tables.
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
  • Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision CNC precision cylindrical grinding, surface thread grinding, internal and external bore, diameter angles and other operations.
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, verniers, callipers, height gauges, optical comparators, or other specialized measuring instruments.
  • Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges and other measuring devices.
  • Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor.

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Completion of a four-year apprenticeship program.
    or
    A combination of five years of work experience in the trade
  • Require Criminal Record Check.

Additional information

  • Full- time, permanent position.
  • Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts and or straight midnights and required overtime weekly.
  • Paid over time after 40 hours worked.

Wage Rate - $26.00 Canadian

The ideal candidate will have the ability to set up and operate gear cutting machines of the following: CNC Shaping, CNC Hob and Spiral Bevel Grinding/Cutting machines, all to close tolerances.

Machine Time: 5 years and up

  • This job is located in Windsor, Ontario.
  • Excellent blueprint reading ability including thorough understanding of geometric, dimension and tolerancing.
  • Fully capable of all aspects of CNC cylindrical grinding skills and practices.
  • Fully capable of machine cycle and tool optimization.

Key Duties:

  • Sets up and operates two or more types of gear-cutting and finishing machines, such as gear shapers, hobs and spiral bevel grinder/generators, to machine spline or gear teeth on metal blanks according to machining instructions and knowledge of gear types and gear machining.  Reads process sketches to determine gear dimensions/specifications, tooling requirements and machine settings.
  • Verifies conformance using micrometers, gear measuring wires, master gears, and special gear inspection equipment.
  • Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges and other measuring devices.
  • Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor.

Quality Engineer

Position Title:   Quality Engineer

Location:          Windsor

Reports To:      Quality Assurance Manager

Purpose: 

 

  • Responsible for: ensuring that Manufacturing and Processing methods conform to Customer Specifications; liaison with Customer Representative to resolve Engineering and Quality concerns, using a cross-functional team approach and continuous improvement methodology.
  • Responsible for: implementation of quality improvement plans to achieve acceptable Customer ratings.
  • Responsible for: implementation and maintenance of AS9100 QMS processes.
  • Responsible for: deployment and training of new quality processes.

     

     

    Duties and Responsibilities;

     

  • Implement and assure conformance to Manufacturing and Quality Control plans and related specification requirements.
  • Using Risk Management techniques such as PFMEA, Control Plans and SPC to ensure the continuous adequacy of the Manufacturing Plan and its application to producing acceptable product quality while meeting product cost goals.
  • Interface with supporting departments and Customers to maximize product producability and minimize Customer concerns in a timely manner; addressing Customer returns, parts investigation and customer corrective action.
  • Facilitate effective and timely root cause and corrective action to maintain product losses within budgetary requirements, and correct the cause of related Customer complaints and dissatisfaction, meet costs, manufacturing losses, and non-conformance reduction goals.
  • Facilitate training of newly deployed quality processes to required personnel.
  • Provide effective corrective action to control losses using SPC analysis and other problem-solving techniques.
  • Provide input to optimizing inspection methods and costs; be sensitive to Quality Assurance cost goals and measurements; provide cost reduction methods with values engineering initiatives.
  • Co-ordinate with Engineering, Quality Control, Maintenance, and Shop Supervision in resolving technical problems.
  • Control of processes related to tool design, N/C programming and implementation of new equipment, both manufacturing and inspection/testing, as well as providing cross-functional involvement and Quality Engineering support to production.
  • Establish Quality policies and goals to create a level of excellence that must be attained by Management and Production Shop to continually meet the customer requirements for product integrity at optimal Quality cost. Monitor Quality cost of non-conformance trend charts.
  • Prepare monthly Quality metrics to support CAPA Board, Management Review, and Quality Reviews.

    Assist in identification and disposition of NCM’s, and prepare collective analysis of new and recent NCM’s with primary focus on those requiring customer MRB review.

     

    Selection Criteria

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business in a related field.
  2. Strong preference for CQE (ASQ) and CQA (ASQ)
  3. 5 years + of experience working in the area of quality.  Within the aerospace industry would be an asset. 
  4. Thorough knowledge of quality principles, materials and processes, including assembly and test experience.
  5. Demonstrated ability to challenge traditional methods of accomplishing tasks or work activities.   Able to identify and implement creative, innovative solutions.
  6. Proven ability to facilitate in a team environment and build consensus in a positive manner with team members, customers and vendors.
  7. Strong planning, organizing, and time management skills.  Proficiency in setting priorities and executing multiple assignments in a timely and efficient manner.

QUALITY INSPECTOR

Northstar Aerospace, a major manufacturer with a world class reputation in the aerospace, defense and transportation industries has the following position available in our Windsor location:

 

Purpose:

Working with minimum supervision, your main responsibilities will be to inspect and approve machined parts for purposes such as first off, first article, batch acceptance and receiving inspection of machined or similar piece parts including spur and bevel gear, castings and forgings.

 

Duties:

  • Must be able to analyze drawings, specifications and manufacturing plannings in order to understand and assess inspection requirements for all phases of manufacturing. 
  • Operate the CMM with Calypso software, programming knowledge is an asset. 
  • Effectively work with supervision, engineering and quality to give feedback and resolve problems.  Learns and adheres to required safety and housekeeping standards and practices. 
  • Perform other relevant duties/ procedures carried out in bench and structural assemblies for dimensional, visual and other defined parameters for adherence to specifications. 

 

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will be a graduate of a recognized college/technical institute with a minimum of three years related Quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally working with methods and procedures related to the Aerospace industry. 
  • Coupled with experience applicable to machine shop inspection and inspection for plannings, as well as, a working knowledge of computerized co-ordinate measuring machines. 
  • Knowledge of gear lab inspection techniques.
  • Programming ability of CMM with Calypso software. 
  • Knowledge of gage capability, tool calibration, GD&T, ability to use various inspection tools, calipers, micrometers, and pin gauges. 
  • Must be dependable, professional, flexible and have a positive attitude and a solid work history.  
  • This position involves rotating shift work with a strong possibly of working a midnight shift.
  • Competitive wage and benefit structure with a pension contribution.
